Koranen besta\u030ar av 114 kapitler (surah), og hvert kapittel besta\u030ar av et visst antall vers (ayah). Kapitlene i Koranen sta\u030ar ikke etter a\u030apenbaringenes rekkef\u00f8lge, men ble satt sammen av profeten Muhammad (fred v\u00e6re med han). Grovt sett til\u00adsvarer dette en omvendt krono\u00adlogi, hvor de korte surah\u2019ene fra perioden i Mekka (610-\u00ad622) kom\u00ad mer sist, mens de lengre surah\u2019ene fra Medina\u00ad-perioden (622-\u00ad632) kommer f\u00f8rst. Unntaket er den f\u00f8rste surah\u2019en, som er en sentral a\u030apningsb\u00f8nn. Det er ogsa\u030a nor\u00admalt a\u030a dele Koranen i 30 like deler kalt juz eller parah, eller i sju deler kalt manzil. Av praktiske a\u030arsaker har vi valgt a\u030a dele oversettelsen i syv bind i henhold til de syv manzil.<\/p>\n
